Here at Northeastern State University-Broken Arrow, providing students with the educational and developmental resources they need to pursue the career of their dreams is always a top priority.

While having students on campus or interacting with them in virtual classes is truly a highlight of serving in higher education, we can’t help but to be excited when time comes for them to graduate and start their own professional journeys.

NSU is proud to offer several different programs for future teachers and educators who will serve in schools in the Broken Arrow community and beyond. Whether you are looking to complete an undergraduate degree, graduate degree or even a certification, NSU-Broken Arrow is here to help you achieve your goals.

NSU’s Early Childhood Education bachelor’s degree was recognized as a top-ranked program for quality and affordability in 2021.This program focuses on the education of students during their most formative years of preschool through third grade.

Graduates will know how to design, implement and evaluate curriculum in a variety of settings that promote positive learning outcomes for each child. Early childhood education is also available as a master’s degree that can be completed entirely on the NSU-Broken Arrow campus or online.

Other bachelor’s degrees in education offered on the NSU-Broken Arrow campus include elementary education, English, mathematics education, science education and special education.

Education master’s degrees offered on the Broken Arrow campus include mathematics education, reading, school administration, special education-autism spectrum disorders and more.

NSU also offers graduate certifications for reading specialists, school administration and school library media specialists. These certificate programs can be completed both online or on the NSU-Broken Arrow or Tahlequah campuses.

The Alternative Certification for Educators (ACE) Institute is another pathway NSU provides to future educators. ACE provides critical training in classroom management and pedagogy for career professionals transitioning into a teaching career. If you currently hold a bachelor's or master's degree in a non-education field and are seeking alternative certification as a teacher for grades 5-12 in Oklahoma through the Alternative Placement Program, the ACE Institute might be the right fit for you.

Financial aid is available for applicants who are approved by the Oklahoma State Department of Education to receive this alternative certification.

This program is offered 100% online, making it accessible to busy Broken Arrow area residents. Courses are eight-weeks long and classes start in January, March, June, July, August or October.

NSU-Broken Arrow has an education program for everyone -- but what happens next?

As part of NSU’s workforce development commitment, we make it our mission to ensure students and alumni are connected with job opportunities upon graduation or a career search.

I’m excited for our Broken Arrow campus to host a job fair this month in order to do just that for future educators. The 2022 Teacher Job Fair will take place Oct. 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the NSU-Broken Arrow Administrative Services lobby.

Employers will be in attendance to provide information on current and future careers. Graduate and professional schools will also be providing information on the application process for numerous degree programs related to education.

This fair is open to all education or related majors and all classifications.

Attendees will have the opportunity to network with prospective employers regarding full-time positions as well as the application process. Preliminary interviews are held in the afternoon following the recruiter lunch. Students who are offered an interview during the morning during the fair may return to the Administrative Services first floor lobby at 1:30 p.m.

Registration is required. For more information and to register, visit https://offices.nsuok.edu/careerservices/CareerEvents/default.aspx.

There is no doubt that becoming an educator is a calling. Teachers have the distinct role and privilege of molding young minds and preparing them for greatness. It is not always an easy path, but it is a path that is sure to change the lives of many in a positive way.

That is why NSU does not take the job of training and equipping future educators lightly. We know your time is valuable and that you need flexibility in your classes, so we offer in person and online options. We know how important securing that job is once graduation nears, so we partner with employers in the Broken Arrow and surrounding areas to make sure NSU is the go-to institution for hiring educators.
