This past weekend nearly 300 student archery competitors came to the Rhema Ninowski Recreation Center in Broken Arrow to compete in the Nock Ninjas Archery tournament sponsored and hosted by Tulsa Area Homeschool Archery (OKTulsa1).
The multi-day event featured archers competing in Varsity Archery and National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) an in-school program aimed at improving educational performance among students in grades 4-12. Through the NASP program, students learn focus, self-control, discipline, patience and the life lessons required to be successful in the classroom and in life.
The Nock Ninja Tournament was a state qualifying event that included three divisions for elementary, middle school and high school students. The State Competition will be held Feb. 22-23, 2023 at Expo Square in Tulsa.
Participating in the tournament was Chelsea Public Schools, Cleveland Middle School, Coweta Area Homeschool Coop, Edmond Santa Fe High School, Locust Grove Middle School, Locust Grove Public Schools, Meeker Elementary, Meeker Middle School, Meeker High School, Ninnekah Public Schools, OKAdair1, OKTulsa1, Owasso 8th Grade Center, Owasso High School, Panama Public Schools, Salina Elementary School, Salina Public Schools, Spiro Public Schools, Sequoyah Schools (Tahlequah) and Shady Point Schools.
The Tulsa Area Homeschool Archery (OKTulsa1) high school team took 1st Place in the Varsity Archery Competition and took 3rd place in the NASP Competition. OKTulsa1 had a total of 7 individual medal winners -- 5 in the Varsity Archery and 2 middle school students in NASP. Students on the OKTulsa1 team are from Broken Arrow, Tulsa, Bixby, Keifer, Sand Springs, Collinsville, Inola, Coweta, Wagoner, Tahlequah and Panama (Okla.).
