Ascension St. John Broken Arrow announced it will hold a grand opening Monday for a new 18-bed ICU/Progressive Care Unit.

The $8 million investment will consist of four intensive care unit beds and fourteen progressive care beds. ASJ officials estimate the facility will serve 1,500 patients annually.

Officials said the intensive care unit has been added to meet the growing need for adult ICU beds in the northeast Oklahoma area. The progressive care beds provide an intermediate level of care for patients.

“Ascension St John Broken Arrow has a decade-long history of providing exceptional medical care to the citizens of Broken Arrow and the surrounding communities. Expanding our inpatient services to include intensive care and progressive care beds means more individuals can remain close to home to receive the care they need,” said Ascension St. John Broken Arrow president Matthew Adams.

“The city of Broken Arrow continues to be a growing, vibrant community and as Broken Arrow's only acute care hospital, it is our responsibility to grow alongside it.”

This expansion complements the bed expansion at Ascension St. John Owasso and the future Ascension St. John Rehabilitation Hospital of Owasso, an affiliate of Encompass Health, 40-bed hospital expected to open in March of this year.
