The Wagoner County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public to come forward if they have any knowledge about an animal cruelty case they are investigating.
Wagoner County K-9 Deputy M. Baldwin responded to the area of 343rd Street South and East 181st Street on Jan. 29 in reference to two canines having been fatally shot at a residence.
Deputies discovered upon arrival that between the 8:15 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. the victim had let her 5-year-old male German Shepherd and 2-year-old female Labrador Retriever out of the rear door of the residence to go to the bathroom.
While both canines were outside, she heard two gunshots, “but thought nothing of it due to gunfire occurring on a regular basis in the area,” the department said. A short time later the victim opened the rear door to check on the welfare of the dogs.
This victim proceeded to the west side of the residence and discovered both canines to be deceased as the result of gunshot wounds. The victim reports hearing no vehicular traffic and/or anything out of the ordinary until hearing the gunshots. There is currently no suspect information.
“This is a sickening, cowardice act perpetrated by an evil individual,” said Wagoner County Sheriff Chris Elliott said. “Anyone who can cold-heartedly shoot two animals and then walk away without a care needs to be brought to justice. We hold hopes that someone may be aware of who committed this crime and can provide that information for our investigation.”
