The Tulsa Police Department said a citizen tackled a suspect Thursday during a foot pursuit with police in downtown Tulsa.
The department said one of its officers encountered two people around 11:30 a.m. near 8th Street and Denver Avenue.
The male, identified as Miguel Fernandez, originally gave a false name. While the officer was questioning him, Fernandez took off running.
During a short foot pursuit with the Officer, a citizen driving southbound on Denver stopped his pickup, jumped out and tackled Fernandez on the sidewalk. Just a few steps behind, the officer took Fernandez into custody. The incident was caught on the police officer’s body camera.
Hernandez was arrested for resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and felony warrants out of Rogers County for burglary, conspiracy, larceny and illegal firearm possession.
“We love our citizens and greatly appreciate all the support that we get from you, and this was definitely a case of 110% support,” Tulsa police said in a Facebook post. “Please put your own safety first before engaging with any nefarious characters.”
