Achieve your dreams for the new school year at NSU-Broken Arrow

Summer is flying by here at Northeastern State University. Before we know it, students will once again fill the halls of all of NSU’s campuses, including right here in Broken Arrow.

As the final days of summer are approaching, I hope you will take a moment to think about your goals and dreams for the future and consider how higher education can help you achieve them.

Statistics consistently show that individuals with a higher education level tend to earn higher salaries and have a lower unemployment rate compared to those without a degree or higher education. Beyond financial benefits, a college education opens the door to a broader range of career options, increasing the likelihood of finding fulfilling work that aligns with one's passions and interests.

NSU offers degrees and certificates, as well as micro-credentials and badges, that can help you on your way to achieving your dreams through education.

At NSU, micro-credentials and digital badges are carefully crafted to ensure they align with industry needs here in our region and beyond, providing practical skills that can be immediately applied in the workplace. This allows individuals to progressively build their knowledge and skill sets over time, opening doors to career advancement and increased opportunities. Employers value candidates who demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and who possess a diverse set of specialized skills.

These credentials often focus on emerging technologies, specialized knowledge areas, or in-demand skills that are highly sought-after by employers. By earning micro-credentials, individuals gain a competitive edge, as they possess specialized expertise that is directly applicable to real-world challenges and opportunities.

Flexibility and accessibility are just some of the key advantages of micro-credentials. NSU understands that learners have diverse needs and commitments, and as such, micro-credentials and digital badges are designed to be completed at one's own pace. Courses are often offered online or through a blended learning approach, allowing learners to access educational resources and materials at their convenience. This flexibility enables individuals to balance their learning journey with work, family and other responsibilities.

Micro-credentials at NSU are designed to be stackable, meaning learners can combine multiple credentials to eventually earn a certificate or degree. Don’t wait another semester to upskill through education. Visit offices.nsuok.edu/workforce-development/ today to learn more.

In addition to a variety of academic opportunities, NSU provides a robust network of support services designed to empower students throughout their academic journey. From admission to graduation, we are here to help you succeed at whatever you set your mind to.

As the familiar start of the school year approaches, NSU also prepares for the beginning of a new chapter at the institution.

Please join me in sending well wishes to Dr. Steve and Penny Turner as they retire from their respective roles as NSU President and First Lady. The campus community is thankful for their steadfast service since 2012, and we wish them luck on their next adventure.

I am very excited to welcome NSU’s 20th president Dr. Rodney Hanley, his wife Sara and their sons Harry and Edward to NSU.

Dr. Hanley joins us from Michigan, and with him brings extensive experience in strategic planning, student, faculty, community and tribal relations, financial and enrollment management and fundraising. We look forward to Dr. Hanley’s leadership in this next chapter of NSU history.

In the meantime, I wish you all a fun and safe remainder of the summer.

We hope to see you soon,

Dan Mabery, Vice President of University Relations
