A small section of South Main and Houston streets will be closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. for a four-phase waterline replacement project beginning Monday, Aug. 21.

With this project, the City will replace an aging 8-inch cast iron water main with a new 12-inch PVC water main that will increase reliability and improve water quality.

The road closures will allow city utility crews to safely complete the underground water main crossing of Houston Street, from north to south on the west side of Main Street, and at the crossing of Main Street from west to east on the south side of Houston Street.

Detour routes will be in place to shift traffic accordingly between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., beginning Monday and it is expected to continue until Friday.

Traffic signs and a message board will be placed in the roadway prior to closures alerting the traveling public of the pending detours.
