Homicide detectives following leads in a missing-person case discovered a shallow grave in a wooded area adjacent to a pond near E. Admiral Place and 124th E. Avenue, the Tulsa Police Department said.
A patrol officer assisting the detectives on Wednesday came across evidence of the shallow grave containing human remains. Upon further investigation, detectives confirmed there was a body in the grave.
The Tulsa Police Department Crime Scene Unit, the Medical Examiner's Office, anthropologists and other agencies began the meticulous task of processing the crime scene.
“We don't want to make any presumptions on the identity of the body in an effort to not cause any harm to any families or give false hope,” Tulsa police said in a social media post.
A full report from the Medical Examiner's Office will determine the cause of death and the person's identity, “and we will provide more information as it is made available,” the department said.
