Mayor Debra Wimpee a finalist for the 2022 Oklahoma Mayor of the Year

Debra Wimpee, mayor of Broken Arrow, has been named as a finalist for the 2022 Mayors Council of Oklahoma Mayor of the Year Award.

The Mayor of the Year award was first established in 1992, recognizing outstanding mayors who have made significant contributions to their community as well as their profession through personal growth and involvement.

“We are excited to announce the nomination of Mayor Wimpee for the Mayor of the Year Award,” said Craig Parham, President of MCO. “Debra is a dedicated public servant who cares for her constituents. Honoring these outstanding leaders each year at the OML Conference is a highlight.”

Mike Fina, Executive Director of the Oklahoma Municipal League said, “Oklahoma is fortunate to have so many Mayors that serve their cities with distinction. Mayor Wimpee does so much for her community and is deserving of this nomination.”

The Mayor of the Year award has 2 categories, one with a population of 5,000 and over and fewer than 5,000.

Criteria for consideration are as follows:

  • Must be in elected municipal office at the time of presentation;
  • Must have served in elected municipal office a minimum of three years;
  • Membership in the Mayors Council of Oklahoma; (MCO)
  • Municipality must be a member of the Oklahoma Municipal League (OML); and
  • Previous Mayor of the Year winners are not eligible for re-nomination.

Nominees will be recognized at the MCO Mayors’ Breakfast at the OML statewide conference on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, in downtown Tulsa. The Mayor of the Year Awards will be presented at the OML Awards Banquet on Thursday, September 15, 2022.
